calling all artists- laptop question?

Journal Entry: Sun May 18, 2008, 10:32 AM
I wrote a journal entry last year about this but haven't been able to get one until now. I am a PC user and I don't think I'll be getting a Mac anytime soon. I wanted to ask all the artists out there which laptop they like and use?

Thanks!! :)

Well since you said you won't get a mac, I'm out! :ohnoes: :XD:

But yeah, I use a Macbook, I like it. It does what I want it to do and so forth. I didn't have a cow going mac considering I don't play any comp. games and so. Over all, it usually doesn't matter what computer you get as long as you keep it maintained well. :3

I have a Sony Vaio and I'm quite happy with it. Fujitsu's and Toshiba's are good bets.

I have a Dell Inspiron 6k and i like it. It really depends on if you want a high end notebook computer or something that works exactly for what you need without all of the extras.

HP Pavilion dv6000 its a pretty good piece of equipment, not too expensive, 17" screen and some nifty design. Won the Red Dot Design award last year. I recommend it!

I know you said you don't want a Mac, but they ARE very very dependable, and they don't pick up viruses. ((They can, but it is VERY rare if they do.)) My dad and I have had our Macs for years now and I've never had a problem with it.

((I started running out of memory on mine, but I got an external hard drive and didn't have a problem with it at all.))

Dell's last about 6 months. If your's lasts longer, be sure to arrange to get it stolen. HP/Compaq is only Slightly better. IBM imho are the best, but be sure you can get one that will take more than 2 gigs ram - preferably 4 gigs. Also be sure to get one with ~real~ 24 bit or 32 bit colours, as many low end ones are cheating now- you'll notice this when retouching photos. Order a backup device like an external 500gb usb hard drive, as when the laptop is inevitably stolen, with ALL you photos, at least you'll be covered.
Some companies allow you to downgrade to XP from Vista, this upgrade will effective make your machine twice as fast! Better yet, get a MAC desktop - 20", now about 1200$ and you won't get the million viruses that Windows will.
